The Stone Tear
Once upon a time there was a small troll
boy who lived with his parents in a cave. He often sat at the mouth
of the cave and watched the human children and the elves playing in
the sunshine. One night he stole away from home to take a look at the
ocean and the countries beyond the mountains.
It is a common belief in Iceland that trolls turn into stone if the
sun shines on them. That is why a small troll boy must take good care.
Even his tears turn into stone as soon as the sun rises. This modern-day
fairy tale, with its roots in Icelandic folklore, is written by Sveinbjörn
I. Baldvinsson. He is a well-known screenwriter and has also written
works of fiction and poetry. The story is beautifully illustrated by
Anna Vilborg Gunnarsdóttir She has previously illustrated several children's
books.
In English.
